The last time we released something new, it was also last time we updated this website (or anywhere else for that matter) about the whereabouts of a new record to come. That was over a year ago – wow.
Since then, a lot has changed, making it surreal to see articles surrounding the new release of our album kick off with phrases like, “The triumphant return of Sun Hotel is imminent” (thanks New Noise for the kind words by the way).
Last October, the broadcast of a phrase like that would mean an album release show and a big tour to follow. Luckily, we can say that we have a wonderfully awesome release show planned but as for the tour, there’s something we should share…
After having one of the most amazing experiences of our lives recording “Rational Expectations” at the Living Room Studio in New Orleans with Chris George and Ross Farbe and putting so much heart into this record it’s bittersweet to say that this album will be our last. Call it our swan song if you’d like. Life has taken us all in different (but awesome) directions that have made us unable to continue writing and performing. For this release show, it will be our final collective gesture as a band and we really hope you’re able to join.
This may come as a shock to some while to others not a surprise at all. Regardless, we cannot thank enough all of those who have supported us over the years, wrote to us, listened to us. The gifts you all have given are those that are beyond quantification. There is truly nothing in this universe that is more exceptional then the moments we have shared with our fans/listeners.
Whether you’ve seen us at some hole in the wall bar, met us in a kind strangers kitchen, or bummed one of us a cigarette, we’d like to thank you for being a part of this. We couldn’t have done anything without you and we’re so happy and proud to see this album come to fruition.
“Rational Expectations” is due out February 3rd on Community Records but you can preorder a digital download or vinyl record. All preorders recieve two tracks that will never be released in any other fashion.
YES! We’re doing it again. Touring with our best buds Caddywhompus. We should probably just start a band with them at this point so we can always tour together. We’ll be getting raucous in a few cities up the east coast this October and we’d love to see you.
Dear friends, starting June 23rd, we’re very excited to embark on yet another East Coast / Midwest tour meeting up with our friends The Lusitania, Young Jesus and JAG periodically along the way. Click on the image below to see all the dates and RSVP on facebook. If you’re in New Orleans, RSVP to the kickoff party @ Siberia with Habitat & The Lusitania
I know this unusual for us to post things like this but I wish it weren’t so I’m going to try and make the first active effort to make that the case. This years SXSW music festival was too great … Continue reading →
It’s that time of year again. We’re really excited to announce our Spring 2012 Tour dates, during which we’ll be visiting some of our favorite cities, towns, beaches, and sandwich shops around the South.
We’ll also be traveling most of these places with our good friends EL CANTADOR from Mobile, AL. Give them a listen when you get a chance!
We wanted to let you know about a really exciting show we've got coming up in a few weeks. We along with our best friends in Caddywhompus and Chinquapin Records are hosting Chicago's own math-folk heroes Maps & Atlases on March 10th at One Eyed Jacks. We'll be selling tickets through the Chinquapin Records website, and each presale ticket includes an album of unreleased Caddywhompus demos. We're also selling a limited run of fifty screen printed posters by Houston artist Shelby Hohl. Here's Chris from Caddywhompus showing one off:
We just finished putting together a lot of exciting shows this spring, and we really wanted to tell y’all about them.
We’re really excited to be playing as a part of Chinquapin Records‘ upcoming Chindig 04 this Mardi Gras! This will be the first of two nights at Cafe Prytania (right off the parade route), after all that day’s parades and debauchery have officially ended. We’ll be playing with our best friends in Country Club and Vox & the Hound, and we’ll be playing some brand new jams and old goodies.
